Allegations of Sexual Misconduct and Harassment Surface Against WFI Chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh

In a recent development, two separate First Information Reports (FIRs) have been lodged with the Delhi Police, accusing Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the Chief of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) and a BJP MP, of inappropriate behavior towards female wrestlers. The complaints, filed on April 28, come after written grievances were submitted on April 21, according to The Indian Express.

The FIRs detail disturbing accounts provided by the complainants, with one wrestler alleging that Singh, without her consent, touched her inappropriately on multiple occasions. She recalled an incident at a hotel restaurant when Singh called her to his table and proceeded to touch her breast and stomach. Shocked and taken aback, she expressed her disbelief as he continued to grope her.

Furthermore, another wrestler claimed that Singh attempted to bribe her with supplements in exchange for sexual favors. In this distressing narrative, the athlete highlighted Singh’s persistent pursuit of his sexual intentions, coupled with threats and pressure to comply.

The FIRs have cited several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including assault with intent to outrage modesty, sexual harassment, stalking, and common intention. Convictions under these sections carry potential jail terms ranging from one to three years.

The second FIR was filed by the father of a minor wrestler who stated that Singh had tightly held his daughter and deliberately brushed his hands against her breasts while pretending to take a photograph. The complainant emphasized that his daughter had explicitly rejected any form of physical relationship with Singh and had expressed her discomfort, yet the alleged harassment persisted, leaving a lasting impact on her well-being.
